Biography 

Anwen Borgo is a composer and violist crafting music that fuses the intimacy of live performance with vivid contemporary sound design. Drawing from classical performance, experimental textures, and a deep curiosity for storytelling, her work centers on emotional clarity and imaginative world-building. She gravitates toward sci-fi, fantasy, animation, and character-driven drama, creating scores that blend orchestral warmth with bold, modern sonics.

 

Anwen’s recent work includes the 9-award-winning film Where Dead Things Grow, directed by award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer Emilie Lowe. She has been recognized across several international competitions: she received the Orchestral Tools Excellence in Scoring Technology Award; was named winner of Score The Universe (hosted by MelodySheep), and placed in the Top 25% of North America in the European Recording Orchestra Call for Scores; She became a semi-finalist in the Red Bull Scoring Challenge. While completing her undergraduate degree at Berklee College of Music she earned Berklee’s Divisional Achievement Award, and was awarded a World Tour Scholarship (Full Tuition) an honor that supports her work throughout her degree. As a violist, she regularly performs in ensembles and recording sessions, keeping live musicianship a central part to her compositional approach.

 

Mentorship and collaboration have played a formative role in Anwen’s artistic development. She has been mentored by Grammy winner Stephanie Economou, whose guidance has shaped both her artistic voice and her approach to scoring for contemporary visual media. Anwen has also had the opportunity to learn from and connect with composers such as Ryan Shore, Joey Newman, Robert Lydecker, Kevin Lax, and others through professional scoring workshops, and industry events. She has participated in scoring challenges and department-selected projects, giving her unique experience and practice emphasizing clear communication with directors, sound designers, and performers.

 

Beyond composing, Anwen invests in community and mentorship within the scoring world. She is very passionate about championing women within the film industry. As a resident board member of The Women’s Film Initiative, she organize mixers, panels, and events for women and gender-minority creators in film and scoring, fostering connection and practical opportunities for emerging artists. Her leadership in these organizations reflects her belief that strong collaboration and equal access to resources strengthen the industry as a whole.

 

Originally from Colorado, Anwen is completing her studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her majors are Film and Game Scoring as well as minor in conducting. She focuses on orchestration, hybrid production techniques, and integrating live players into media projects. Influenced by encounters with established composers who champion live performance in scoring, she designs music that serves story and character while pushing textural and technological boundaries. 

 

Anwen continues to build a portfolio across film, games, and narrative media, committed to thoughtful collaboration, musical craft, and the enduring impact of live musicians on cinematic storytelling.
